The original E28 BMW M5, introduced in 1984 and debuted at the Amsterdam Motor Show in 1985, was entirely hand-built by BMW Motorsport technicians and became the fastest production sedan in the world at the time of its launch. Powered by a modified 3.5-litre inline-six engine descended from the legendary M1 supercar, the E28 M5 delivered 286 horsepower through a chassis that looked virtually identical to a standard 5 Series — the ultimate wolf in sheep's clothing.
