The 1963 Corvette Grand Sport — one of only five ever built — features an aluminium body, a lightened chassis, and a dry-sumped 377 cubic inch V8 engine specifically developed for international endurance racing. Zora Arkus-Duntov built the Grand Sports in secret to compete at Le Mans, but GM's corporate racing ban halted the official programme before the cars could race under factory support. The five Grand Sports competed privately with remarkable success, and surviving examples are among the most valuable Corvettes ever sold at auction, with prices exceeding five million dollars.
