The 250 GT SWB — Short Wheelbase Berlinetta — was one of the most successful dual-purpose cars in racing history. Its shorter wheelbase compared to the Tour de France gave it sharper handling at the cost of a slightly less comfortable ride, and its 3.0-liter Colombo V12 produced up to 280 horsepower in competition trim. Owners could drive the SWB to a race, compete with a realistic chance of winning, and then drive home afterward. The car won the 1960 and 1961 GT class at Le Mans, and a well-preserved example sold at auction in 2015 for over ten million dollars.
