The Tipo 815 was the very first car to carry Enzo Ferrari's involvement, even though it was technically produced by his Auto Avio Costruzioni company before the Ferrari brand officially existed. Built in 1940, only two examples were constructed, and they competed in the 1940 Mille Miglia before the race was interrupted by World War II. The 815 used a 1.5-liter inline-eight engine based on two Fiat four-cylinder blocks joined together — a clever solution that demonstrated the resourcefulness that would define Ferrari's engineering approach for decades.
