The Jaguar XK engine is one of the most important automotive powerplants of the twentieth century. Designed by William Heynes and Claude Baily during World War II and first fitted to the XK120 in 1948, the twin-cam straight-six was a technological masterpiece that produced more power, more smoothly, and with greater efficiency than virtually anything else available at the time. The XK engine powered Jaguars for nearly four decades — from the XK120 through to the final XJ6 in 1987 — and won five Le Mans 24 Hours in the C-Type and D-Type. Its dual overhead camshaft design and hemispherical combustion chambers influenced engine designers worldwide. These 3D domed wheel center cap emblems honor that groundbreaking engine.
