The Jaguar D-Type Long Nose variant — introduced for the 1955 Le Mans race — featured an extended front section that improved aerodynamic stability at the high speeds reached on the Mulsanne Straight. The longer nose incorporated a revised air intake, reshaped headlight fairings, and a smoother overall profile that reduced drag while increasing downforce at the front axle. The Long Nose D-Type won Le Mans in 1955, 1956, and 1957, with the extended bodywork becoming the definitive appearance of the race-winning specification. The visual difference between the short-nose and long-nose variants is immediately recognizable to Jaguar enthusiasts, and the long-nose is generally considered the more visually proportionate design.
