The Mazda MX-5 ND2 — the mid-cycle update introduced in 2019 — brought a revised 2.0-liter SkyActiv-G engine with increased power output to 181 horsepower, a higher redline of 7,500 rpm, a telescoping steering column for improved driving position adjustment, and a comprehensive update to the infotainment system. The ND2's power increase was achieved through revised intake porting, higher-flow exhaust, lighter connecting rods, and recalibrated fuel injection timing that allowed the engine to deliver noticeably stronger mid-range and top-end performance without adding weight or complexity. The telescoping steering column — absent from the ND1 — addressed one of the few criticisms of the original ND by allowing taller drivers to achieve a more optimal driving position.
