The Mazdaspeed3 — sold as the Mazda3 MPS in European and Australian markets — was the turbocharged performance variant of the Mazda3 that squeezed 263 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque from a 2.3-liter direct-injection turbocharged four-cylinder engine through the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. The Mazdaspeed3 was known for its exhilarating acceleration, entertaining torque steer during aggressive launches, and a combination of practical hatchback versatility and genuine hot hatch performance that made it one of the most affordable ways to achieve serious speed during the mid-2000s to early 2010s.
