AMG was born in 1967 when two former Mercedes-Benz engineers, Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher, set up a racing engine workshop in an old mill building in Burgstall, Germany. The A and M in AMG stand for Aufrecht and Melcher, while the G represents Aufrecht's birthplace of Großaspach.
