BRABUS was founded in 1977 by Bodo Buschmann in Bottrop, Germany, after he grew frustrated with the limited customization options available for his Mercedes-Benz. He partnered with his university friend Klaus Brackmann to formalize the business — German law required two people to register a company — and the name BRABUS was created from the first three letters of each surname: BRAckmann and BUSchmann. Brackmann later sold his shares for a symbolic hundred euros, but the name stuck and has become the most recognised Mercedes-Benz tuning brand in the world.
