The Jaguar XJ220 was the fastest production car in the world when it was released in 1992, reaching a top speed of 212 miles per hour — a record that stood until the McLaren F1 surpassed it two years later. Originally conceived as a four-wheel-drive, V12-powered supercar, the production XJ220 used a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine developed by Tom Walkinshaw Racing that produced 542 horsepower and drove the rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. Only 275 examples were built, and the car's dramatic low-slung body, scissor doors, and massive rear wing created one of the most visually imposing supercars of the 1990s.
